The Secrets to Success: When You Want to Succeed As Bad As You Want To Breathe by Eric Thomas (ET The Hip Hop Preacher)

Last weekend we officially crossed 200 quotes from Eric Thomas here at ET Quotes – 30+ of those which were from ET’s The Secrets to Success Autobiography.

And like I mentioned in that post, I still had more quotes to add – and add more I did! čÖé

I collected 71 inspiring quotes from ET’s autobiography when I read the book last year, and they’re all now available here at ET Quotes so you can not only be inspired, but also remind yourself of some key lessons from ET’s story and also share the inspiration with others.

The Secrets to Success is an inspiring story that gives us a glimpse of the adversity ET faced growing up as a homeless high school dropout in Detroit. It’s a story of pain, sacrifice, hope, trust, setback, faith and perseverance.

I especially like how real ET was in the book – he didn’t sugar coat anything, and really shared not only the external challenges he faced, but also the internal challenges he had to overcome, as he came to the realization that change ultimately starts from within. And once he understood that, and the power of faith, there was no looking back.

So go ahead and browse the quotes from The Secrets to Success and let me know which quote and message is your favorite.

I’m sure there are more quotes from the book that I’ve missed, so I’d love to hear your favorite quotes and messages from book as well. In fact, you can email me here and I’ll add them to the collection (just let me know what page number the quote is from as well so I can properly source it).

Here are 15 of my favorite quotes from the 71 I collected.

Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.

– Karen Lamb,
The Secrets to Success, Chapter 6: When I Move, You Move

Never underestimate the importance of the beginning. The beginning has the seeds of everything else to come. Started a G.E.D. program in the hood and the rest was history.
– Eric Thomas,
The Secrets to Success, Chapter 14: P.U.S.H. (Push Until Something Happens)

Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent. It’s not who you are that holds you back, it’s who you think you’re not.

Yeah. ET’s story is so powerful! And he is such a powerful speaker! You can feel the pain he went through to get to where he is today. What’s the most powerful message from ET that has affected you? And how has it changed your life?

Eric Thomas is the man right now. He reminded me of why hard work is good for the soul and how every mile walked is worth the end result.

Now, in this comment I was going to write ‘if you like Eric Thomas I suggest you watch this video…’, but Instead I will say… If you feel like getting psyched up, if you feel like you’ve had enough of sleeping in or if you have had enough of spending your nights wasting away in front of the television/computer screen then I suggest you watch this video of Mr Thomas! It changed my life! I guarantee it will impact yours.

Thanks Jordan! Love the Secrets to Success video – it’s the first video of ET that I watched, and since then I’ve been hooked.

I’ve shared some my favorite quotes from the Secrets to Success Video here – what’s your key take away from it?

And I agree, he’s reminded us all of true power of hard work, and how nothing worth having comes easy.

Here’s to making the most of each, and every, moment we have!

I feel like I’m late as far as being reached but the effect that the book has had is unmeasured. It feels good to know that someone has the will to share steps that teach us how to understand the world and in a way guide ourselves to greatness. When he speaks of environment and relates it to harvesting a grarden or a crop. I can’t express the appreciation of his truth.

I agree @GP13 – it’s so good to see people like ET share their life lessons with the rest of us. The best we can move forward, is not only by learning about ourselves, but learning from others as well. And I’m glad to see that ET’s story and message is having such a positive impact on your life!

Here’s to making the rest of your life, the best of your life!

I was homeless, relationship was down the drain, and didn’t have a job to wake up to. I first listened to ET about a year and a half ago and my mind set switched. Now I have a home with 3 bedrooms, married, and two jobs. I am competing for Rookie of the Year for the Behavioral Health department in Alaska and the Boys and Girls Club that I am director of, just became the Club of the Year in the state. My wife’s little sister moved in with us and now I am spreading the passion on to her. I have two CDs of his that we listen to while we clean the house, have to make sure the hospital corners are just right čśë and also have his book that I read on the down time.

Congratulations on turning your life around Joseph!

My favorite part of your comment is when you say “my mind set switched”. It truly comes down to our minds. How we think, and perceive, the world, and our current circumstances, has such a significant impact on we carry out our lives.

So what video or track was it that had that affect on you a year and a half ago? And what was it that spurred you to action?

And that’s awesome! Which CDs are you listening to?

And congratulations on becoming Club of the Year! Keep inspiring the youth at the Club. They’re our future.

Im a disabled vet, i was medically separated from the military after only 3 years of service for severe arthritis and ligament tears which deemed me undeployable as a mechanic and a cop. After feeling as if i had let down my country and my family and friends i started to get completely unhealthy. Both physically and mentally i was a loss, i wasnt the same man i was once before. I was not Strong willed and i constantly gave up on everything i did. It took me a couple years to figure out why those things happened to me and well when my daughter was born i figured it out it was because of her, god wanted me to be a father so i believe it was a blessing. Weighing in a 331 i decided to take back my life, i got my gym membership and well that was feb of 2012 today i am at 230 and almost where i want to be. Listening to eric Thomas helped me find my inner self once again, and i tell you what just by listening to him on youtube gave me hope and power to be who i am today. All my heroes have worn dog tags but Eric Thomas is also apart of that elite group. Thank you sir

Wow. Thanks for sharing your story Matthew. Love hearing stories like this!

So glad to hear of the positive impact ET has had on your life! Congratulations on taking back control of your life and transforming it for the better!

Like ET says, a setback is a setup for a comeback. And that’s speaking truth in your case as well!

I wish I could meet ET someday and thank him personally. I listened to his speech last year and couldn’t sleep for a couple of days. I’ve struggled to lose weight by giving up and looking for shortcuts all my life. I decided that this time even if I’d fall off a treadmill I’ll still reach my goal. In exactly 365 days I’ve lost 118lbs and feel like a new person all together. People around me ask me what in the world did I do to achieve something that many think impossible without diets, supplements and surgeries. I was consistent, patient, focussed and following my game plan. It was the only thing on my mind, every day, every hour, every minute and every second.Thank you ET for giving me this new life I’ve always dreamt of. I’m never going back.

Wow! Congratulations on your healthy transformation Harsh! I love hearing real success stories like this.

It’s amazing what you can accomplish once you make up in your mind that no matter what, you will achieve it, and you just stay consistent with it day in, day out, no matter what comes your way.

Was there a particular track on the mixtape? Or TGIM episode that you kept listening to, to keep you going?

Hi Parin, pardon me for the super late reply. I’m not sure which video exactly … only remember he was speaking to a group of students and the video was about 14-16 minutes, if I still recall correctly.

E.T. is one of my greatest heroes.

I have a dream. I’m not ready to tell all of it yet.
However it is something big.
It’s hard, it’s so so really hard.
Your speech E.T. was the very first one I ever heared.

It was the very first time during my great Journey that I didn’ feel that alone anymore.
I know that there are others out there like me.

Listening to motivational speeches, are the only time of the day that I don’t feel that alone. I can do it. I wish I was allready on your level. Yet I’m still too weak, however I keep trying untill I get there. One day, will be my day. Thank you E.T.

At least there is most certainly one that knows how I feel and shares my road.
I will chase my dream. Greatness is upon us.

It doesn’t matter if anyone else won’t believe it.
I believe it. And that enough for me to go for it.
Just me.

Jake you are definitely not alone my man! I feel exactly the same way about still being to weak. I am not a weak person but like ET said ” life just got up and punched me right in my face”. I am in great debt and in fear of losing my business and my house but I have a wife and 2 beautiful kids who depend on me and I will not let them down. They are my WHY! Eric Thomas is an unbelievable movitator and I will not stop until I achieve greatness! I am making changes everyday but still struggle on being where I want to be but I never have lost faith in myself. Don’t ever give up and making even small changes everyday is one step closer to your dreams. You can do it Jake and so can I. Keep listening to ET and the switch is bound to go off!

ET Changed my life. I found him on you tube at the begining of 2013 i swore to myself on new years eve i would change my life or die. I worked really hard for about 8 months then i slipped back in to my old ways because everything was going my way, im still riding a bit on the hard work of those 8 months but things ain’t going so good anymore and i can’t seem to pick myself back up to that level. Any advice for someone like me?
